Apache Cassandra Cluster
Apache Cassandra is a distributed, wide-column NoSQL database designed for high write throughput and continuous availability across multiple data centers with no single point of failure. It was originally built at Facebook and later donated to the Apache Software Foundation.
Baseline topologies
| Topology | Minimum nodes | Roles |
|---|---|---|
| ring-3-node | 3 | cassandra-node |
| ring-scaled | 6 | cassandra-node |
What drives the cost
- Dataset size (GB)
- Total dataset size before replication. Combined with replication_factor to determine raw storage requirements across the cluster.
- Replication factor
- Number of copies of each partition stored across the ring. Multiplies raw storage and write amplification proportionally.
- Peak write operations per second
- Peak sustained write operations per second. Primary driver for CPU, memory, and compaction throughput requirements.
