Grafana Loki
Grafana Loki is a horizontally scalable, multi-tenant log aggregation system that indexes only metadata labels for each log stream rather than full log text, keeping storage and operating costs low. It is queried with LogQL and is designed to pair with Grafana and Prometheus-style label conventions.
Baseline topologies
| Topology | Minimum nodes | Roles |
|---|---|---|
| single-binary | 1 | loki |
| simple-scalable | 3 | loki-write, loki-read, loki-backend |
What drives the cost
- Daily log ingest (GB)
- Estimated uncompressed log volume ingested per day. Primary driver for storage and ingester capacity planning.
- Retention window (days)
- How long logs are retained before expiry. Drives total storage footprint together with ingest volume.
Where it runs
bare_metal, dedicated, cloud_vm
