Redpanda Cluster
Redpanda is a Kafka API-compatible streaming data platform written in C++ that replaces the JVM- and ZooKeeper-based architecture of Apache Kafka with a single self-contained binary. It uses a thread-per-core, Raft-replicated design aimed at lower tail latency and simpler operations than a traditional Kafka deployment.
Baseline topologies
| Topology | Minimum nodes | Roles |
|---|---|---|
| three-node-cluster | 3 | redpanda-broker |
| scaled-cluster | 5 | redpanda-broker |
What drives the cost
- Peak throughput (MB/s)
- Peak aggregate produce throughput in megabytes per second across the cluster. Primary driver for CPU core count and network bandwidth requirements.
- Total partition count
- Total number of partitions across all topics. Drives memory overhead for partition metadata and Raft group management.
- Total retention storage (GB)
- Total data retention across all topics before replication. Combined with replication factor to determine raw storage requirements.
Where it runs
